Gulls learn quickly. Here a Ring-billed Gull picks up some sort of shell, swings up high, drops it and goes down to see if it is broken enough to get the critter out of it. If not, the gull will repeat the process. (Sometimes another gull steals the critter--gulls are opportunists, too.)Click on any image to see a larger picture.
