Magee Marsh Near the End of May 2005

Even with migration in full swing, weather conditions can make a big difference at Magee. These pictures are from the latter part of the 3th week of May. The first day, there was a strong wind coming off Lake Erie, and the birds were down low and close. That night, the wind died down and most of the birds that were in the marsh moved on across the lake. The next day was sunny and warm, but the bird action was much less. A case of "warbler neck" appeared to be breaking out here and there. However, there were still some of the closer looks. All in all, we had around 60 species of birds; 16 of the species were warblers. We met some guys who had flown in from Arizona to catch the migrating warblers. Cars in the parking lot represented all of the contiguous states to Ohio. There were a couple of Illinois, New York, Vermont, Virginia, and Maryland cars, also.
